The ZTE brand’s Red Magic 9 Pro and Pro+ have been officially announced, boasting some of the most impressive specifications seen in gaming phones to date. Both these new models showcase the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, refined designs, shoulder keys, and RGB cooling fans. While sharing similar fundamental hardware, the variations lie in battery capacity, charging capabilities, and RAM.
The Red Magic 9 Pro devices sport 6.8-inch flat AMOLED screens made by BOE, offering a resolution of 1,116 x 2,480 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, and slim bezels without a visible cutout for the 16MP front-facing camera, ingeniously integrated beneath the display.
These panels deliver up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness and incorporate 2,160Hz PWM dimming to combat eye strain. Additionally, they feature an under-display fingerprint reader that doubles as a heart rate monitor.
Regarding specifications, the Red Magic 9 includes 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256/512GB UFS 4.0 storage, whereas the 9 Pro+ variant offers options of 16/24GB RAM and up to 1TB of storage. Both phones boast the updated ICE 13 cooling system, covering a total area of 10,182mm².
The enhanced cooling mechanism is touted to reduce the device’s operating temperature by up to 18°C, incorporating a graphene layer beneath the screen and an expanded air duct for improved airflow. The internal fan now spins at 22,000 RPM and boasts a 30% increase in thermal conductivity.
All Red Magic 9 Pro models feature aviation-grade aluminum frames and completely flat glass backs without protruding camera sensors. The camera setup includes a 50MP main shooter utilizing Samsung’s GN5 sensor with OIS and a 50MP ultrawide lens. Software-wise, they operate on Red Magic OS 9.0 based on Android 14.
The primary differences between the two models lie in battery capacity and charging speeds. The Red Magic 9 houses a 6,500 mAh battery with 80W wired charging, while the 9 Pro+ accommodates a smaller 5,500 mAh battery with support for 165W fast charging. Both devices offer Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, a headphone jack, and an IR blaster.
Available colors for both phones include black, white transparent, and black transparent. The Red Magic 9 Pro starts at CNY 4,399 ($620) for the base 8/256GB version, reaching up to CNY 5,399 ($761) for the 12/512GB transparent variants.
Meanwhile, the Red Magic 9 Pro+ begins at CNY 5,499 ($775) for the 16/256GB version, with the highest priced model being the 24GB RAM and 1TB storage option at CNY 6,999 ($987). Sales commence in China on November 28, while international pricing and availability details will be revealed later.

The arrival of the Red Magic 9 Pro is scheduled for November 23, accompanied by teasers from nubia’s gaming division. The initial teaser showcases the smartphone’s side view, revealing a flat design on both sides—eschewing any curved display or camera protrusion. This image also highlights a cooling vent on the side, a consistent feature in Red Magic’s flagship models over recent iterations.
While specific details about the cameras remain undisclosed, expectations are not set for groundbreaking advancements in a phone primarily targeted at gaming enthusiasts. As per Digital Chat Station, the primary camera is anticipated to sport a 50 MP Samsung GN5 sensor sized at 1/1.57″ and equipped with an OIS lens. Additionally, the ultra-wide camera is expected to employ the Samsung JN1 imager, previously seen in the Xiaomi 14 and iQOO 12, offering a resolution of 50 MP and a pixel size of 0.64um.
Currently, information revolves around the Red Magic 9 Pro exclusively. The existence of a non-Pro version remains uncertain, leaving speculation open on whether nubia will adhere to previous series’ marketing strategies (as with the 8 and 8S) by introducing a pair of Pro variants.

In late August, benchmark tests revealed a Nubia-manufactured phone equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, prompting speculation that it could be a new addition to the Red Magic phone series. Now, more concrete evidence has surfaced confirming this assumption, as Red Magic has officially announced the unveiling of its 9 Pro model scheduled for November 23.
The announcement regarding the launch date was made through a social media post by the gaming division of the brand. They hinted that the upcoming phone would not only showcase advancements in design but also improvements in performance, battery life, and screen technology. Although the teaser lacked an image of the actual smartphone, considering past Red Magic Pro models, expectations suggest a triple camera setup, a cooling fan, and possibly an under-display selfie camera.
According to the Geekbench listing from August, the Red Magic 9 Pro is expected to offer a 12 GB RAM variant, but it’s highly likely that more robust options, such as 16 GB or even 24 GB, will be available. The phone is anticipated to come with Android 14 pre-installed, featuring the latest version of Redmagic OS layered on top, along with a hardware switch on the side dedicated to toggling the gaming mode. All details will be unveiled during the launch next week, but teasers and trailers leading up to the event are expected to provide further insights and glimpses into the phone’s capabilities.
