As previously announced this year, HMD Global has begun manufacturing 5G smartphones in Europe, specifically in Hungary. The first phone to roll off the assembly line is the Limited Edition Nokia XR21. HMD has produced an initial batch of only 50 devices, with just 30 of them available for sale. Each phone will bear a unique serial number and comes in the exclusive Frosted Platinum color, packaged in its own limited edition box.
The Nokia XR21, initially revealed in May, boasts a rugged design with MIL-STD-810H military-grade and IP69K certification, the highest protection against water and dust. The phone features a 6.49-inch IPS LCD screen with FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Powering the XR21 is a Snapdragon 695 chipset, and it houses a 64MP primary camera along with an 8MP ultrawide module. The device packs a 4,800 mAh battery with 33W charging and comes pre-installed with Android 12.
The Limited Edition Nokia XR21 is priced at €699/£599 and is available in Germany, France, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Finland, and the UK. HMD will also release the regular Nokia XR21 in Black for €649/£549 at a later date.

Nokia has joined the rugged smartphone market with its latest offering, the XR21, which has achieved MIL-STD-810H military-grade and IP69K certification – the highest IP protection against water and dust. The IP69K rating specifically denotes that the Nokia XR21 is resistant to close-range, high-pressure and high-temperature spray downs.
The device boasts a 6.49-inch IPS LCD screen with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, covered with the toughest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection available, and can even be used with wet hands or gloves. Powering the phone is the Snapdragon 695 SoC paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
On the back of the XR21 are a 64MP f/1.8 primary camera and an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide lens, while the front has a 16MP f/2.5 selfie camera. The phone has a 4,800mAh battery with support for 33W charging, and unfortunately comes with Android 12 out of the box.
However, Nokia has promised to provide monthly security updates for up to four years and three major Android OS upgrades. The Nokia XR21 will be available in Midnight Black and Pine Green colors, starting at £499 in the UK, with the release slated for early June. No word yet on its international availability.
