The debut of the Nothing Phone (2a) marks the arrival of a device that delivers much of what its predecessor, the Nothing Phone (2), offers but at a more accessible price point. Nothing asserts that it offers an optimal daily user experience, drawing upon Nothing’s expertise in engineering and craftsmanship.
Before delving into its specifications, it’s essential to examine the design of the Phone (2a). Leveraging Nothing’s inaugural internal smartphone design concept, which was conceived in 2020 shortly after Nothing’s inception, the Phone (2a) boasts a distinctive design aesthetic.
A defining feature of its design is the incorporation of a dual-camera system nestled within the NFC coil, creating what Nothing refers to as ‘the eyes’. The device’s back panel extends seamlessly around the edges at a precise 90-degree angle, enhancing its resilience against accidental drops. Available in Black, White, or ‘Milk’ finishes, the Phone (2a) offers users a choice of sleek and stylish designs.
The Phone (2a) showcases Nothing’s iconic Glyph interface, featuring 26 individually addressable zones. These zones support various functions such as the Glyph Timer, notifications, Glyph Torch, and Glyph Progress, contributing to a unique and customizable user experience.
Under the hood, the Phone (2a) is powered by the Dimensity 7200 Pro chip, a collaborative effort between Nothing and MediaTek. Fabricated using TSMC’s cutting-edge 4nm process, the SoC boasts a processor clocked at up to 2.8GHz, ensuring smooth and efficient performance.
On the front, the device sports a 6.78-inch 10-bit AMOLED display with a resolution of 1084x2412px, offering vivid visuals and a peak brightness of 1,300 nits. With a variable refresh rate ranging from 30Hz to 120Hz, users can enjoy a seamless viewing experience tailored to their preferences. Operating on Nothing OS 2.5 layered atop Android 14, the Phone (2a) guarantees three years of Android updates and four years of security patches.
In the camera department, the Phone (2a) features a dual 50MP rear camera setup alongside a 32MP front-facing camera for selfies. The primary cameras include a 50MP wide-angle lens with OIS and a 50MP fixed-focus ultrawide lens, promising exceptional imaging capabilities.
The Phone (2a) boasts an impressive 5,000mAh battery, the largest among its peers, supporting rapid charging at up to 45W. Nothing asserts that the battery will maintain 90% of its capacity even after 1,000 charging cycles, ensuring long-term durability.
Available for pre-order starting today on nothing.tech, the Phone (2a) will commence shipping on March 12. Globally, it will be offered in two variants: the base model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage priced at €329, £319, or INR 23,999, and the higher-tier model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage priced at €379/£349/INR 27,999. Additionally, an exclusive 8GB/256GB variant will be available in India for INR 25,999.
However, prospective buyers in the United States will need to apply to Nothing’s developer program for a chance to purchase the Phone (2a), priced at $349. While Nothing has indicated that non-developers may also be approved, the process differs from conventional online ordering and requires approval from Nothing.
