China Mobile recently made waves by officially launching 5G-Advanced (also known as 5.5G/5G-A) on its network, heralding the next evolution in mobile connectivity. Promising enhancements in speed, latency, and stability compared to standard 5G, 5.5G represents a significant leap forward in telecommunications technology. Building upon this momentum, Oppo swiftly announced plans to integrate 5G-Advanced into its Find X7 series, with fellow BBK Group member vivo following suit.
vivo is set to introduce 5.5G support to its X Fold3, X Fold 3 Pro, and X100 series through an over-the-air (OTA) update later this month. Additionally, the iQOO 12 series and iQOO Neo 9 series are slated to join the ranks of 5.5G-compatible devices.
An image circulating on Weibo showcased a vivo X100 Series achieving impressive download speeds of 3619.19Mbps and upload speeds of 160.75Mbps on China Mobile’s 5.5G network. While these results are noteworthy, they represent only a fraction of the theoretical speeds supported by 5G-Advanced, which boasts up to 10 Gbps downlink and 1 Gbps uplink speeds, along with millisecond latency and enhanced network stability, as highlighted in China Mobile’s press release.
As 5G-Advanced undergoes testing in China, its operational footprint is currently limited to select cities. However, China Mobile has ambitious plans to expand coverage to over 300 cities by year-end, encompassing major metropolitan areas such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. The widespread adoption of 5.5G heralds a new era of connectivity, promising transformative experiences for users across various sectors.
