China’s Redmi Note 12R has become the first smartphone to launch with the newly announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset. The device’s key specifications were already known, as it had been listed on the China Mobile database last week.
While the Redmi Note 12R introduces the latest midrange chip and some minor camera differences, it largely shares its design and main specifications with the recently announced Redmi 12. It features a 6.79-inch IPS LCD display with FHD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The front houses a 5MP camera within a punch-hole cutout, while the back accommodates a 50MP primary camera (f/1.8) and a 2MP macro module.
The Redmi Note 12R comes with various RAM and storage options: 4GB/6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage, expandable via a microSD card slot. The device is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 18W charging and runs on MIUI 14 based on Android 13.
In terms of color choices, the Redmi Note 12R is available in Midnight Black, Time Blue, and Sky Fantasy. In China, the base variant with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at CNY 999, which is approximately $140/PKR38132.44. However, it is also possible to obtain the device for just CNY 99 ($14/PKR3813.24) with a contract. It remains to be seen if Xiaomi will release the Note 12R outside of China.
