vivo Y78 will Debut with 50MP Camera, 120Hz Screen, & Dimensity 7020 SoC

Last month, vivo introduced the Y78+ with the Snapdragon 695 SoC, and today the company unveiled the standard model, which is powered by the Dimensity 7020 chip. One noticeable difference between the vivo Y78 and Y78+ is the display. The Y78 features a 6.64″ Full HD+ 120Hz LCD, while the Y78+ comes with a larger 6.78″ Full HD+ 120Hz curved AMOLED display, which includes an integrated fingerprint reader for biometric authentication. The vanilla model, on the other hand, utilizes a side-mounted fingerprint solution.

In terms of battery, both smartphones are equipped with 5,000mAh batteries and support 44W wired charging. Surprisingly, the vivo Y78 is thicker and heavier (190g vs. 177g) compared to the Y78+. Another distinction is that the Y78+ incorporates OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) in its 50MP primary camera, while the Y78 lacks this feature. Both smartphones include 2MP depth units alongside the primary camera, and an 8MP sensor is used for the front-facing camera.

Similar to the Y78+, the vivo Y78 runs on OriginOS 3, based on Android 13. It also offers a USB-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, an upgrade from Bluetooth 5.1. The vivo Y78 is available in three colors and three memory configurations: 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB, and 12GB/256GB.

Pricing starts at CNY 1,399 ($200/€185/INR16,570) for the base model, CNY 1,699 ($245/€225/INR20,120) for the mid-tier option, and CNY 1,999 ($290/€265/INR23,675) for the top-tier variant. Sales in China will commence on May 13 through vivo’s official Chinese website, while availability in other markets is yet to be announced.
