The upcoming Sony Xperia 1 VI has been the subject of several rumors, suggesting it will feature a design similar to its predecessor but with a slightly different screen aspect ratio—less tall and a bit wider. Additionally, it is rumored that the 4K resolution might be dropped, and the camera setup could remain unchanged from the Xperia 1 V.
Today, leaked CAD-based renders give us a first look at the Sony Xperia 1 VI. According to these renders, the phone will sport a 6.5-inch screen, retain the headphone jack, and include a dedicated camera shutter button on the right side.
The Xperia 1 VI is reported to measure 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.4 mm, making it less tall and wider than its predecessor, which measured 165 x 71 x 8.3 mm. This marks a shift from the 21:9 screen aspect ratio that made previous Xperia 1 models distinctive, moving towards the more common aspect ratios of 19:9 to 20:9 seen in many current flagship devices.
As for the 4K resolution, it appears Sony may abandon this feature, which, despite being innovative, has not significantly impacted sales compared to competitors with lower resolutions. The industry trend suggests that 4K resolution on smartphones is not widely adopted, reinforcing this potential decision by Sony.
While the exact release date of the Xperia 1 VI remains unknown, the Xperia 1 V was announced in May of last year. Therefore, it is plausible that Sony might unveil the Xperia 1 VI around the same time this year, continuing its annual update cycle.

Recently, there has been speculation suggesting that Sony will forgo the 4K display in the upcoming Xperia 1 model, coinciding with a shift in aspect ratio from 21:9 to 19.5:9. This adjustment implies a change in the phone’s dimensions, and a recent leak sheds light on the new measurements.
Reportedly, the Sony Xperia 1 VI is anticipated to measure 162 x 74.4 x 8.45mm, indicating a 3mm reduction in height and a slight increase in width compared to its predecessor, the Xperia 1 V, which measures 165 x 71 x 8.3mm. Renderings from earlier previews suggest that Sony will maintain its conventional design with top and bottom bezels, ensuring that the decrease in vertical space does not compromise features such as stereo speakers and a front-facing camera housed within the bezel rather than the screen.
Regarding the display, it is projected to span 149.6 x 69.4mm, resulting in a 19.4:9 aspect ratio and a diagonal measurement of 6.49 inches. A comparison with the previous model’s screen dimensions reveals a marginal reduction in vertical space (2mm) but an increase in width (almost 5mm).
The Sony Xperia 1 VI is anticipated to make its debut in May. A prior leak suggests that the device may offer an option with 16GB of RAM, while the base variant will likely retain 12GB. Additionally, the leak hints at the existence of the Xperia 5 VI (with 8GB) and Xperia 10 VI (with 6/8GB), although it remains unclear if these models will also be unveiled alongside the Xperia 1 VI in May.
