Tempered glass lens protectors for the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 10 VI have surfaced on Japan’s Rakuten Market ahead of the scheduled launch event on May 17. Notably, these protectors are physically larger than those of their predecessors, featuring wider apertures, which could indicate larger camera sensors.
The lens protector for the Sony Xperia 1 VI measures 1.5 x 5.2 cm, compared to the 1.3 x 4.9 cm size of the Xperia 1 V’s protector. Similarly, the protector for the Xperia 10 VI is 1.6 x 3.3 cm, also larger than the camera island on its predecessor. While these larger dimensions might suggest upgraded camera hardware, it’s possible they are merely aesthetic changes, with the internal sensors remaining unchanged.
A rumor from earlier this month suggests that the Xperia 1 VI will use the same camera sensors as its predecessor: a 24mm 48 MP main shooter (f/1.9 aperture and 1/1.35″ sensor), a 16mm 12 MP ultrawide (f/2.2 and 1/2.5″ sensor), and an 85-125mm 12 MP telephoto (1/3.5″ sensor with continuous zoom). However, Sony is expected to offer significant software improvements to enhance camera performance.
Recent leaks have shown renders of the Xperia 1 VI, which depict a design similar to the Xperia 1 V, featuring a tall 6.5-inch screen with a new aspect ratio, moving away from the 21:9 seen on previous models. Additionally, the flagship is rumored to drop the 4K resolution. The Xperia 1 VI is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, with up to 16GB of RAM, ensuring top-tier performance.
