If you were curious about the official availability of the long-anticipated OnePlus Open, which happens to be the company’s inaugural foldable device, in India, your curiosity can now be put to rest. OnePlus has initiated its teaser campaign for the Open in India, and it’s not unfolding in the way you might have expected.
This campaign doesn’t involve a conventional social media post announcing an impending announcement or anything of that sort. Instead, OnePlus opted for a rather unconventional approach by providing an Open to Indian actress Anushka Sharma and having her seemingly “inadvertently” display it to the paparazzi at various junctures.
Of course, this scenario appears to be meticulously staged. Sharma appears to be holding the phone rather awkwardly, opens it in an unconventional manner, and throughout the entire episode, neither of the screens displays any content. It’s uncertain whether the phone was turned off or if it might have been just a prop. In any case, Sharma certainly wouldn’t handle her own phone in this manner.
One must commend OnePlus for deviating from the expected marketing approach, even though celebrity endorsements, both internationally and in India, are a well-established strategy. Nonetheless, this unique presentation provides us with our most extensive “hands-on” video look at the device to date, confirming that the leaked information about the substantial circular camera island is indeed accurate, reminiscent of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra’s design. The latest rumors suggest that the OnePlus Open is set to be officially launched next month, following a delay from the initial timeline, which was attributed to a change in screen panels.

OnePlus is set to join the ranks of smartphone brands offering foldable devices with the upcoming release of its own foldable phone, speculated to be called either OnePlus Fold or OnePlus Open. The official name has yet to be revealed, but it is anticipated to be unveiled at a special event in New York in August. We have gathered the latest leaks and rumors to provide you with the most up-to-date information.
The OnePlus Fold is expected to feature an outward folding design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and vivo X Fold2. Recently leaked CAD-based renders shared by @OnLeaks depict a tall cover display and a larger inner panel.
Interestingly, the renders of the OnePlus Fold bear a striking resemblance to leaked schematics of the Oppo Find N3, an unreleased device that is likely to remain exclusive to China, while the OnePlus foldable phone will be available internationally.
The renders also reveal a camera cutout on the back of the OnePlus Fold, inspired by the OnePlus 11 design and featuring Hasselblad branding, along with three sensors. The OnePlus Fold boasts sleek metal sides and a textured back with a leather-like finish. The sides of the device house a fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button and the beloved alert slider on the left-hand side.
In terms of specifications, the OnePlus Fold is expected to sport a 6.3-inch AMOLED cover screen with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The outward-facing panel is also likely to include a 20MP selfie camera housed within a centered punch-hole cutout.
The primary display of the OnePlus Fold is anticipated to be a 7.8-inch LTPO AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1,900 x 2,100 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. Based on the renders, it will feature a punch-hole cutout in the top left corner, accommodating a 32MP selfie camera. The device is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, coupled with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
In the camera department, the OnePlus Fold is rumored to incorporate a 50MP main sensor (IMX890) and a 48MP ultrawide sensor (IMX581), which are the same sensors found in the OnePlus 11. In our review, we found this camera setup to perform well. You can view some sample images here. The third camera module on the back of the OnePlus Fold is expected to be a 64MP telephoto camera.
The OnePlus Fold is said to house a 4,800mAh battery with 67W charging support, slightly smaller than the 5,000mAh battery of the OnePlus 11. In terms of software, it is expected to run on OxygenOS 13.1 based on Android 13. However, it remains to be seen how OnePlus plans to optimize the software for the larger foldable display.
Pricing and availability details for the OnePlus Fold are still unknown, as no concrete leaks have been published thus far. Considering its horizontally folding design and flagship specifications, we can expect the OnePlus Fold to be priced in the range of $1,500 to $1,800, similar to other foldable phones like the Galaxy Z Fold and Pixel Fold.
As for availability, the OnePlus Fold is likely to launch first in the United States and Europe, with other regions expected to follow suit. We will keep you updated with further details on the OnePlus Fold as they emerge, so stay tuned to our news section.

For a considerable period of time, it was widely anticipated that OnePlus would release a foldable smartphone under the rather mundane name “OnePlus Fold.” However, it appears that the company has decided to opt for a more captivating moniker, namely “OnePlus Open.” This information was shared by Max Jambor on Twitter, who also mentioned that the name had been officially trademarked earlier this year.
The name OnePlus Open seems like an appealing choice, particularly considering the multitude of foldable devices available in the market, such as the Galaxy Fold, Mix Fold, and X Fold, to name a few. According to @MaxJmb, OnePlus also contemplated alternative names like Prime, Wing, Peak, or Edge.
The anticipated launch date for the new phone is late August, and initial renders depict a device with a circular camera module, flat edges, and an alert slider located on the left side when the device is unfolded. The primary display is expected to feature a 7.8-inch AMOLED panel, while the cover screen is rumored to be a 6.3-inch AMOLED display. The device is likely to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, coupled with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage.
