OnePlus has a history of experimenting with various textures for the backs of its phones, and it appears that the OnePlus 12 will introduce something intriguing. According to the reputable and often accurate source, Digital Chat Station, the upcoming flagship smartphone may feature a variant with a wood texture back.
However, there’s some ambiguity due to machine translation, and the accompanying image doesn’t offer clarity either. There’s debate about whether this texture will be genuine wood or a material like plastic or glass designed to simulate a wood-like texture.
In the past, OnePlus has offered cases with wood textures for certain devices and even provided removable wood texture backs for its inaugural smartphone, the OnePlus One. It’s possible that this move to incorporate wood with the OnePlus 12 is a tribute to the company’s initial model.
Given the uncertainty stemming from the image, it seems more probable that OnePlus might offer a wood texture case. Creating such a case would likely be easier than applying such a texture directly to the phone’s back.
Nevertheless, the mobile industry has witnessed unexpected developments, so anticipation remains high to see the final outcome. The OnePlus 12 is scheduled for unveiling in the Chinese market on December 4 and is expected to reach international markets in January.

OnePlus is preparing to commemorate its tenth anniversary with a major event scheduled for December 4 in Shenzhen, China. At this event, CEO and founder Pete Lau will unveil the much-anticipated OnePlus 12, which is set to be a highlight.
Numerous leaks have already surfaced regarding the upcoming flagship. These leaks hint at impressive features, such as its 6.82-inch LTPO OLED panel manufactured by BOE, boasting a resolution of 1,440 x 3,168px and a remarkable peak brightness of up to 2,600 nits.
The OnePlus 12 is also expected to debut with an enhanced camera setup, featuring Sony’s latest 48MP dual-layer stacked Lytia 808 primary sensor, accompanied by a 1/2.0” 64MP OV64B sensor equipped with a telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom. Additionally, a 48MP ultrawide lens is anticipated to complete the trio of camera modules.
As a flagship model of 2023, the OnePlus 12 will launch equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, as recently confirmed by an AnTuTu listing. The device will support 100W charging. In China, OnePlus 12 units will ship with ColorOS 14 based on Android 14, while international variants are expected to offer OxygenOS 14.

The OnePlus 11, which currently serves as the flagship device for the Chinese company, was released in January. However, work is already underway on its successor, unsurprisingly named the OnePlus 12. According to a recent leak from a typically reliable source, the OnePlus 12 is expected to launch in China in December. It’s worth noting that the global release may occur a few weeks or even months after the Chinese launch.
At present, the phone exists in the form of an engineering sample. This early version showcases the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset as its powerhouse, a 6.7-inch QHD OLED touchscreen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, and a 5,000 mAh battery that supports rapid 100W wired charging.
The OnePlus 12 will feature three rear cameras: a 50 MP primary lens, a 50 MP ultrawide lens, and a 64 MP periscope zoom lens. The inclusion of a periscope zoom camera would be a first in the OnePlus lineup, although it is not unprecedented for the parent company, Oppo.
Initial observations suggest that there aren’t many notable hardware upgrades at first glance, as the screen size, resolution, and refresh rate appear to remain unchanged from its predecessor. The use of the next-generation chipset is expected, following the company’s usual trend.
It’s important to keep in mind that we are still in the early stages of the phone’s development cycle, as it is seven months away from its actual launch. Therefore, there may be changes and improvements along the way. Rest assured, we will provide further details as they become available.
