According to a recent Inverse report, Nothing, Carl Pei’s new company, has been actively recruiting former OnePlus employees. Currently, approximately 70% of the software team and 30% of the hardware team at Nothing previously worked at OnePlus. While this information isn’t officially confirmed, Carl Pei himself welcomed Kyle Kiang on board, who previously served as the Chief Marketing Officer at OnePlus.
In his new role as Vice President for Nothing in North America, Kyle Kiang will lead the launch of the highly-anticipated Nothing Phone (2). Unlike last year, the Phone (2) is expected to be a flagship device equipped with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and will be available in the US. Carl Pei’s decision to bring Kyle on board is likely influenced by his previous success in negotiating the OnePlus and T-Mobile partnership.
It appears that Nothing aims to target tech enthusiasts, much like OnePlus did in its early days. Many longtime OnePlus fans believe that the company has lost its spark in recent years, creating an opportunity for companies like Nothing to appeal to this tech-savvy audience.
