Late last year, Honor launched the X7b, a budget-friendly 4G phone notable for its large 6.8-inch display and impressive 108MP main camera. However, many wished it had 5G connectivity. Now, a few months later, that wish has been granted with the introduction of the Honor X7b 5G.
The Honor X7b 5G has quietly appeared on the company’s website, showcasing some significant upgrades. The old Snapdragon 680 has been replaced with the Dimensity 6020, offering not only faster networking capabilities but also improved processing power, given the aging nature of the Snapdragon 680. This new chipset is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, ensuring smoother performance and ample space for apps and media.
Several other changes accompany this upgrade. The 5MP ultra-wide camera has been removed, which is a minor loss considering its low resolution. More notably, the microSD slot and NFC support are missing, which could be disappointing for some users.
The X7b 5G is powered by a substantial 6,000mAh battery. While the 4G version also had a large battery in some regions, European and Latin American units were limited to 5,330mAh. Charging remains consistent at 35W. Despite these changes, the phone retains its stereo speakers and 3.5mm headphone jack, which are valuable features at this price point. While the price for the X7b 5G hasn’t been announced, it is expected to remain affordable.
For comparison, the Honor X50i and Honor 90 Lite also use the Dimensity 6020 chip and have similar specifications, though both feature smaller 4,500mAh batteries. The X50i launched at CNY 1,380 ($190/€175), and the Honor 90 Lite debuted in Europe with an MSRP of £300/€300, though it now retails for closer to £200/€220 after promotions. These comparisons suggest that the Honor X7b 5G will be competitively priced, offering significant value with its enhanced features and connectivity.
