On Wednesday, July 12, Honor is set to unveil its latest foldable device, the Magic V2. Ahead of the launch, a company executive shared official camera samples, revealing that the main camera will feature a 25mm equivalent lens with an f/1.9 aperture. Teasers also suggest that the smartphone will be exceptionally lightweight and thin, surpassing the 240-gram weight of the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The camera samples were taken in Beijing during sunset, as confirmed by the President of Product Line at Honor. However, it’s essential to refrain from drawing conclusions about image quality based solely on social media photos, so it’s best to wait for independent tests.
Honor has expressed confidence by comparing its device to an Apple bar phone, implying that it outperforms the Huawei Mate X3. The Mate X3 weighs 239 grams and measures 5.3 mm at its base when unfolded. The true extent of Honor’s progress will be unveiled on Wednesday.
Thanks to some in-hand images that surfaced on Weibo, we now have a real-life look at the Magic V2 in its blue and black color options, though the device is only shown in its folded state. The cover screen boasts slim bezels and a punch-hole cutout for the front-facing camera. Notably, the right side of the panel curves into the frame, giving the Magic V2 a sleek and narrow profile. It is anticipated to be one of the thinnest foldables on the market, with rumors suggesting a weight of less than 240 grams.
Both the blue and black versions of the phone feature a leather-like finish and a significant camera island that protrudes notably, especially in side profile shots. The rear camera setup consists of three sensors, with the main shooter featuring a 25mm equivalent lens with an f/1.9 aperture.
While much of the spec sheet remains unclear, rumors suggest that the main screen will be an LTPO AMOLED display with a higher refresh rate than its predecessor and high-frequency PWM dimming. The Magic V2 is expected to launch in two versions, with one equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, offering up to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. A more affordable variant will feature last year’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. Additionally, the device is rumored to have a 5,000 mAh battery with support for 50W wireless charging.

Currently underway, MWC Shanghai has seen Honor CEO George Zhao deliver a keynote speech on innovation and evolution in the mobile phone industry. During his presentation, he announced that the new Honor Magic V2 will be launched on July 12, promising to “revolutionize the foldable experience.”
Compared to the initial Magic V, the previous release offered a 10% lighter body and an improved hinge. While the CEO did not disclose specific details about what will make the V2 revolutionary, it is anticipated that Honor will address some of the drawbacks of its predecessors. Expectations include features such as waterproofing, wireless charging, and enhanced capabilities in a half-folded state.
A previous rumor from last week also mentioned the date of July 12. According to the source, the V2 will feature an LTPO AMOLED display with a higher refresh rate and high-frequency PWM dimming. It is speculated that the phone will be available in two versions: one equipped with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset from last summer and another with the current flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. As the event approaches, it is hoped that Honor will reveal more details and features about the upcoming device.
