Google Pixel 8 Pro Leaked Hands-on Images
Leaking information is a headache for companies, and Google has struggled with leaks in recent years. To combat this, Google has resorted to pre-announcing its upcoming smartphones and devices in an attempt to get ahead of the leak cycle. However, it seems that even these efforts are not enough to prevent leaks from occurring.
Recently, a few images of a Pixel 8 Pro prototype surfaced on Reddit. Although the images and the account that posted them have been deleted, their removal suggests that they were legitimate leaks. Based on these leaked images, it’s evident that the Pixel 8 Pro follows the design language of previous Pixel devices, featuring the iconic camera “visor” or a large camera island spanning from one side to the other.
It’s important to note that this is a labeled prototype intended for testing and evaluation purposes only. The “product revision” field indicates the codename “husky,” which is associated with the Pixel 8 Pro. This prototype reportedly includes 12GB of Samsung-made LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS storage produced by SK Hynix.
Since this prototype is not intended for sale and the Pixel 8 Pro is still under development, it’s advisable not to scrutinize every detail too seriously. The peculiar pattern on the back glass could be a form of leak prevention or identification code, and the color may not align with Google’s aesthetic choices for 2023, lacking sufficient contrast between components.
Nevertheless, this leak provides a good indication that the Pixel 8 Pro’s design will remain similar to its predecessor. Remember, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are rumored to be launched in October, so there’s still plenty of time for more exciting leaks to surface before then.
Interestingly, according to previous rumors, the circular blob beneath the LED flash array on the device is an infrared thermometer. The Pixel 8 Pro is expected to feature a 6.7-inch 1,344×2,992 120Hz OLED display, an updated 50MP primary rear camera with Samsung’s ISOCELL GN2 sensor, a 64MP Sony IMX787 sensor for the ultrawide camera, and the same 5x optical zoom sensor and 11MP front-facing camera as its predecessor.

One notable absence in Google’s recent smartphone lineup has been gimmicks, particularly the kind that Google is known for – those that come and go quickly, like the Soli radar, for example. However, with that being said, it may come as a pleasant surprise to hear that the upcoming Pixel 8 Pro is rumored to include an infrared thermometer on the back, positioned under the circular LED Flash within the camera bump.
The thermometer will have the capability to measure body temperature, utilizing a sensor similar to the ones found in most contactless thermometers (which may remind you of the pandemic). To use the thermometer sensor on the Pixel 8 Pro, you simply need to bring it close to your forehead without making direct contact with your skin. Then, by tapping the start button and moving the phone towards your temple within five seconds, the phone will vibrate to signal the completion of the temperature measurement.
Now, you might be wondering about the usability of this feature considering that the screen is located on the other side of the phone – the side that isn’t facing you in this scenario. Unfortunately, we can’t provide an answer at the moment because there was a video demonstrating how the feature works, but it was uploaded to YouTube and subsequently removed for violating the platform’s Terms of Service. It doesn’t sound like the most user-friendly experience, but in the event of another pandemic, you’ll be equipped to scan people around you with just your Pixel 8 Pro, without the need for additional hardware.
It’s important to note that this intriguing new feature will only be available on the Pro model of the Pixel 8, so if you’re considering saving some money and opting for the regular Pixel 8, you won’t have access to it. The Pixel 8 Pro is anticipated to be unveiled alongside the Pixel 8 in October, and both smartphones are rumored to be powered by Google’s own Tensor G3 SoC. The Pixel 8 Pro is said to have a slightly smaller screen than its predecessor, measuring 6.52 inches, and it is expected to feature Samsung’s largest ISOCELL GN2 sensor for its main camera.
