According to CEO Carl Pei, Nothing’s second smartphone, aptly named Phone (2), is set to be released in July. This information was disclosed in an interview with Forbes today. In a previous revelation, Pei mentioned that the device will be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, positioning it as a notable upgrade from the mid-range Nothing Phone (1) but not quite on par with the flagship devices of 2023 that utilize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
The decision to opt for the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 was influenced by the comparative costs of the two SoCs, with the company determining that the latest chip did not warrant the premium price. The success of this decision remains to be seen, as it will likely depend on the pricing strategy. If the price is competitive in comparison to other flagship smartphones, consumers may be more inclined to accept this choice.
The teaser image shown above was shared by Nothing earlier this month, indicating that the launch campaign is now in full swing. Following the traditional style of OnePlus/Nothing, the company is gradually unveiling specification details every few weeks.
As for the battery, the Phone (2) will feature a 4,700 mAh cell, which is an improvement of 200 mAh compared to the battery in the Nothing Phone (1). However, it falls slightly short of the current standard of 5,000 mAh. The impact on battery endurance remains to be seen and will likely depend on various factors.
