Honor Play 40 and Honor Pad X8 Pro Tablet Updates
Introducing the new Honor Play 40, which not only offers internal improvements but also sports a refreshed external design. Additionally, Honor has unveiled a stylish new tablet that prioritizes multimedia capabilities.
Honor Play 40:
The Honor Play 40 is powered by the same Snapdragon 480+ chipset found in the Play 30. However, it now comes with enhanced memory configurations: 6GB/128GB, 8GB/128GB, and even 8GB/256GB. Users can also take advantage of up to 5GB of virtual RAM. Unlike its predecessor, the Play 40 launches with MagicOS 7.1, based on Android 13, instead of Android 11.
The display remains mostly unchanged, featuring a 6.56-inch LCD with a resolution of 720 x 1,612 pixels (slightly over a 20:9 aspect ratio). It boasts a 90Hz refresh rate and a notch housing a 5MP selfie camera at the top.
The rear camera setup consists of a 13MP main module with 1080p video recording capabilities and a new 2MP depth sensor. While the addition of the depth sensor is welcome, an ultra-wide lens would have been a preferred inclusion.
The battery capacity has seen a slight increase to 5,200mAh (up by 200mAh), but it still supports basic 10W charging. The device retains a USB-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack, and it holds Hi-Res Audio certifications for both wired and wireless connections.
The most significant upgrade is the refreshed design, now available in four color options. The camera island has a flat profile with a distinct surface finish, and there is a sparkly ring surrounding the “AI camera” label. The Honor Play 40 is already available for purchase through Honor’s online store in China. The base model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at CNY 1,380 ($190/€175/₹15,700).
Honor Pad X8 Pro:
The Honor Pad X8 Pro boasts a larger 11.5-inch display compared to the Pad X8 (10.1 inches). Its IPS LCD offers a resolution of 2,000 x 1,200 pixels, 100% sRGB coverage, 400 nits peak brightness, and a minimum brightness of 2 nits. The tablet provides a 120Hz refresh rate, as well as high-end audio capabilities with six speakers (two on each of the three sides).
Under the hood, the Pro model is equipped with a Snapdragon 685 chipset, which can be configured with 4GB, 6GB, or 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. It runs on MagicOS 7.1, based on Android 13, out of the box.
The Honor Pad X8 Pro features a slim and lightweight metal body, measuring just 6.9mm thick and weighing 495g. It houses a 7,250mAh battery, promising up to 13 hours of video playback. The tablet is available in three color options, aligning with the design aesthetics of the Honor Play 40. The Honor Pad X8 Pro is also currently available for purchase through Honor’s online store in China. The 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant is priced at CNY 1,100 ($150/€140/₹12,500).
